This condition has in the past been called giant cell sarcoma and myeloid sarcoma under the mistaken belief that the tumor was malignant. A more modern term is osteoclastoma, i.e., a tumor of osteoclasts.
The tumor develops in children and young adults, usually before the age of thirty years.
The common location is the long bone, especially femur and tibia adjacent to the knee.
This report presents a rare case of giant cell tumor of the left maxilla which was completely removed surgically and then confirmed histopathologically. In addition to case presentation, some literal , reviews were discussed.
A 10-year old girl was admitted to Taegu Fatima Hospital on June 10, 1968 with the chief complaints of nasal obstruction and swelling of the left cheek which developed progressively for, a duration of about nine months.
By Denker´s method, the operation was performed under general anesthesia on the day following admission. After the complete removal of the tumor, the patient was observed clinically- until the present time. There were no complications and also no recurrence.
